Little Ed's Mum - read her farm story

£16.50

Regular price £16.50

Designed for Home Farm Wensleydales - DK collection -  by Ali Craft Designs - Wool to your Door.

Ed's mum, our black sheep - she is so cute - we absolutely love her.

During lambing, 2018, we had a triplet born by a White Wensleydale ewe and unfortunately his mum wasn't able to provide enough milk for all three of her lambs.  This meant that we had to take one away from her and put him in our 'lamb lounge' with some other little friends and a giant automatic milk machine.

However, a day later we had a very sad situation.  A Black Wensleydale ewe eventually delivered a lamb that was born dead - but it was a great struggle to help her deliver this dead lamb.

Our vets were out on an emergency call elsewhere and couldn't get to us on time - so we called upon Ed, a 'retired' shepherd with many years experience and a good family friend who also helps us when we are in trouble.  Ed saved the day!  He delivered the dead lamb and instantly swapped it with the White Wensleydale lamb that was in the 'lamb lounge' with the automatic milk machine, and, of course the Black ewe who had lost her lamb was delighted and Little Ed got himself a new mum!  Happy ending and such a happy Ed and new mum.

Home Farm Wensleydales produce Wensleydale wool to the highest standard and the ethos of our farm is always animal care, welfare and husbandry first.

Our luxurious wool is made from our finest fleeces, washed and spun in Yorkshire.  Our wool is soft, smooth and silky, bursting with lustre and worsted spun to ensure great stitch definition.

Our pure longwool yarns are versatile and can be used for most knitting and crochet patterns as well as the lovely range that we have on offer from Home Farm Wensleydales.

THIS KIT CONTAINS:

100g (3.53 oz) of Home Farm Wensleydales luxury DK (8 Ply/light worsted weight) yarn in Naturally coloured and Cotswold Stone.

The Naturally Coloured wool should be rolled into 2 equal size balls and the body of Ed's mum is crochet using 2 strands.  This gives her body a lovely texture.

NOIL (Noil is the shorter lengths combed from our tops before spinning.  You will find small pieces of straw or hay - but don't worry - this has been washed to such a high temperature - there will be no bacteria in this!)  Plus - its pure wool - so wont burn - making your sheep extra safe.

You should have enough naturally coloured wool to sew in Ed's mums eyes

Pattern with clear instructions to complete your kit.

YOU WILL NEED: 3.00mm (US 2) crochet hook and tapestry needle to sew up.

SKILL LEVEL: Easy - the instructions are so easy to follow.  But time should be taken with sewing up, stuffing and adding her eyes.

NOTE:  The Naturally Coloured wool should be rolled into 2 equal size balls and the body of Ed's mum is crochet using 2 strands.  This gives her body a lovely texture.

HOW MINE CAME OUT: She measures       when complete.

LAUNDRY CARE:  Handwash, plump up and dry.

Packaging

Wherever possible we will use paper packaging

However, Europe, US, Canada and Rest of World, it is not always possible to use paper due to the soft contents of the package.  If this is the case, we use 90 micron polythene mailbags.  Recycling guide: LDPE 4 (Low density polyethylene).

Low-density polyethylene, or LDPE, is number 4-coded plastic, commonly used to manufacture shopping bags, dry cleaning bags and flexible bottles and lids.  Although not as commonly recycled as number 1 polyethylene terephthalate or number 2 high-density polyethylene, LDPE recycling is gaining traction as its post-consumer uses increase. One use is combining recycled LDPE with wood to create composite lumber suitable for light applications. All these plastics can be recycled into different products, but of the three, LDPE results in the most greenhouse gas savings when it's recycled.

But please - do not put number 4 LDPE plastic into a recycling bin unless you are sure it is accepted. Otherwise, you could contaminate an entire batch of recycled plastic.
